Sirius Kids' Connection
- Mission statement
- Our mission is to provide our special needs children and their families with the skills, tools and knowledge they need to reach their full potential and make the world around them easier to understand. Utilizing both group classes and in home settings we will teach social skills to our children and give our families additional behavior modification tools through learning to train the family dog in the format of a positive reinforcement based dog training course. We will provide our children with the skills they need to improve their understanding of social norms both at home and in public situations. The tools and knowledge we will provide will improve our children’s long-term success in the outside world as well as make life easier on the home front.
- In addition we will provide educational tools and presentations to increase public awareness and understanding of the challenges facing our special needs children and their families, particularly in the state of Colorado, where funding for special needs families is scarce. We will provide more affordable services than what is currently available and provide need based scholarships whenever possible for our training classes.
- Because we believe so strongly in the value of animal assisted therapy with properly trained dogs we will work to provide funds for families to adopt a therapy dog. The dog must come from an accepted reputable program according to the safety guidelines set forth by North Star Foundation, who places assistance dogs with children to help them to meet their social, emotional and educational goals.
